Klasha’s Instant Pay to China Launch Signals a New Era for Africa–Asia Cross-Border Commerce

By Goddy Egene
Cross-border trade between Africa and China continues to expand, but payment infrastructure has remained one of the largest operational challenges for businesses importing goods. Delayed settlements, fragmented payment rails, and inconsistent transaction visibility have traditionally slowed international commerce, particularly for SMEs.

Klasha has taken a significant step towards addressing this challenge with the launch of Instant Pay to China, enabling businesses across Africa to make faster cross-border payments directly to suppliers in China through a simplified digital workflow.

Behind the product launch was a multidisciplinary team led by Product Manager Ebere Iwuafor, who coordinated the product discovery, roadmap planning, and delivery process alongside engineering, compliance, design, and commercial stakeholders. Her role focused on translating merchant pain points into product requirements while ensuring the solution aligned with Klasha’s broader cross-border payments strategy.

The product introduces a streamlined payment experience that reduces operational complexity for merchants purchasing inventory from China. Businesses can initiate payments more efficiently, track payment progress, and gain greater confidence over international settlements through an improved user experience built specifically for African enterprises.

According to the product team, the development process involved extensive merchant research to understand where businesses experienced friction when paying overseas suppliers. These insights informed feature prioritisation, payment flows, transaction visibility improvements, and onboarding experiences that reduced barriers to adoption.

The launch reflects a growing trend across African fintech towards infrastructure products that simplify international commerce rather than simply facilitating payments. By enabling faster settlement capabilities between two of Africa’s most important trading regions, Klasha continues to strengthen digital financial infrastructure supporting international trade.

As African businesses increasingly participate in global commerce, products such as Instant Pay to China demonstrate how thoughtful product management and customer-centred design can remove operational barriers while improving the efficiency of cross-border transactions.
