Crest Africa Award 2024: Emmanuel Agboola Honoured As Breakthrough Artist

Emmanuel Agboola, professionally known as Abephe, has been honoured with the Crest Africa Award 2024 as Breakthrough Artist.

This award recognises his rising influence in the Afrobeat and Afrofusion music scene. The award celebrates his ability to blend Yoruba cultural identity with soulful melodies and contemporary African rhythms, creating music that resonates both in Nigeria and internationally.

Born and raised in Nigeria, Abephe’s early exposure to traditional rhythms, storytelling, and cultural sounds shaped the foundation of his artistic identity.

After relocating to London, he refined his craft, releasing a series of impactful projects that reflected his evolution and maturity as a musician. Formerly known as Abefe, he rebranded as Abephe to signify this artistic growth and renewed creative vision.

Among his notable works, the project Good Bad Guy introduced audiences to his versatility and emotional depth. Between 2023 and 2024, he released standout singles including Fool (2023), a heartfelt track highlighting his storytelling and vocal sincerity.

Others included GELE (2024), a vibrant celebration of Yoruba culture and feminine beauty; Carry Am (2024), a rhythmic Afrofusion anthem for the dancefloor; and Oluwa (2023), a spiritually grounded single reflecting gratitude and resilience. These releases solidified his signature sound, combining cultural authenticity with contemporary musical innovation.

Abephe is recognised not only for his music but also for his creative vision. He oversees his visuals, branding, and storytelling, ensuring that each release communicates his artistic intent.

His stage performances across London and collaborations with artists from Nigeria, South Africa, and the UK showcase his ability to connect with diverse audiences, merging music, movement, and narrative into immersive experiences.

Through his work, Abephe continues to elevate African sound and identity on a global stage.
