Unilever Rewards Transporters, Reaffirms Commitment to Safety

As part of efforts to enhance compliance with safety protocols, Unilever Nigeria Plc. has rewarded some independent transporters and drivers for adhering to safety rules.
The transporters were rewarded at its capacity building programme organised in Lagos to improve drivers’ knowledge of safety.
The organisation stated that the training exercise was also in a bid to support and intensify federal government’s road safety campaign across the country.
Speaking during the three-day capacity building programme, the Go-to-Market Supply Chain Director at Unilever Nigeria, Tobi Adeniyi reaffirmed the organisation’s continuous efforts at ensuring safety of both humans and goods across its supply chain.
He added that the company remained dedicated to the improvement and enlightenment of all its transport partners who distribute the company’s products nationwide.
He said, “The theme for this year’s training is ‘Shine your eyes, Stay Alive’. We have sustained this programme over the years because we appreciate the importance of safety and efficiency within our supply chain. Our independent transporters and other logistics partners regularly go through these trainings to improve operational efficiency as they get familiarised with new developments that support best practices and incorporate impactful use of technology in the industry”.
This year’s training included a comprehensive defensive-driving session which was facilitated by officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) as well as police training on cargo security.
The participants also benefited from health talks from medical experts in addition to free medical checkups.
Remarking, Safety, Health and Environment Manager Ghana-Nigeria, Unilever Nigeria Plc., Mrs Rachael Ezembakwe expressed that the company would always appreciate its logistics partners who have kept to the safety standards of the regulatory agencies as well as Unilever general guideline for safe transportation.
“We thank and celebrate our independent transporters and logistic partners for adhering to the high safety standards required to deliver world-class logistic services across our supply chain, while ensuring that the company’s product gets to our customers in good and excellent condition.
“This high level of professionalism has contributed to the success and growth of our company. This is why we are rewarding you today and we say thank you for a job well done. ”
Awards presented included: Best Driver, Best Transporter Representative, Best Transporters, Best Proof -of-Delivery Compliant Transporter, Best Security Compliant Transporters and a special recognition for Excellence in Service Delivery Company.
Mr Chinedu Okonkwo of Oritsetimeyin Logistics Limited won the Overall Best Driver of the Year Award while Kobo 360 Logistics Limited represented by their Head of Operations, Mr Somuadina Ekwosimba won the award for the Best Transporter of the year.
