The South West Agenda for Asiwaju 2023 (SWAGA), Ekiti State chapter, yesterday said the group was consummated not only to galvanise support for the presidential aspiration of the former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, but to ward off fifth columnists and bring unity in South-west region to prosecute the 2023 presidency.

The political group added that it would strive hard to initiate process that would rescue Nigeria and Ekiti State in particular from bad governance, poverty, insecurity, and disunity, by ensuring that credible people in its fold are made to contest elections and deliver for Nigerians.

The SWAGA National Chairman and former Minister of Works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, who stated this during a town hall meeting held in four local government areas of Ekiti State to mobilise his members, yesterday said there was need for them to show interest in electoral contests to display quality representations in leadership positions.

Adeyeye, who led the tour alongside the Chairman of SWAGA, Ekiti State chapter, Chief Tony Adeniyi (SAN), met the members in Ido/Osi, Moba, Ilejemeje and Oye Local Government Areas, promising that all the 16 council areas will witness the aggressive mobilisation drive of the group.

He said: “The need to roll up our sleeves in the effort to produce a people-friendly and resourceful go-getter to run the affairs of our country and indeed our state, Ekiti, is a serious project we need to face headlong as a way of wriggling our people from the current mess we found ourselves as a result of age-long corruption, which has made governance of our country a hell.

“We have to be proactive, more than ever before, as a plunge into a further mess may spell doom for a country that is already on a life support as a result of the plundering of the past, majorly caused by visionless leadership that held Nigeria by its jugular between 1999 and 2015, causing unprecedented lacuna that only a political genius could fix.”

He noted that it is just apt to identify who will lead the country from the South west, now that it is becoming more apparent that the ruling APC would pick its presidential candidate from the South, saying: “SWAGA was chiefly formed to ensure cohesion in the zone for 2023 presidency.

“The political leadership of the country is more than ever before pointing to the South, and we feel the need to move with time to ensure we present the right candidate from our zone.

“The outcome of our research is that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is found to be the round peg to adequately fill the leadership round hole of our country. We feel we must match up speed with time and this sensitisation tour, which is more of assuring you of an impending bright future to putour house in order in the Southwest to avoid clash of opinions when it comes to presenting who to lead from our zone.”

On his own, the state Chairman of SWAGA, Senator Adeniyi, noted that the group was adopting a holistic approach in the effort to put sanity in governance starting from Ekiti State from the APC primary slated to hold in January 2022.

“A journey of a thousand miles must start with a step. We feel the need to start early with this move so that the Yoruba race will be on same page for once in picking who to lead from their zone.

“What we are doing is voluntary. We see it as our own contribution for the good of our state, our zone and the nation at large. We are so resolute in the effort, and we are also committed. We are sure that Nigeria, and indeed Ekiti State, will begin to see the dividend of our efforts from January next year, when we shall be holding our party primary election,” he said.
