Alleged Sexual Harassment: FUOYE Slams Lecturer With Suspension
By Victor Ogunje
The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), has suspended an Associate Professor in the Department of Theatre and Media Arts, Dr. Jonathan Mbachaga, over an alleged sexual harassment.
This was contained in a statement that was signed yesterday by the Chief Information Officer to the Vice Chancellor, Mr. Foluso Ogunmodede.
The statement said that Mbachaga’s suspension came after a committee inaugurated by the institution’s Faculty of Arts to investigate the alleged sexual harassment established a prima facie evidence against him.
The suspension, which was with immediate effect, would pave the way for a proper investigation of the allegation by a five-member committee that was set up by the vice chancellor of the FUOYE.
The statement reads: “the Vice-Chancellor of FUOYE, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, who has zero tolerance for indiscipline and any form of sexual harassment against students of the institution, has consequently approved the suspension of Dr. Mbachaga to allow for proper investigation into the matter.”
“The vice chancellor has also mandated the Dean, Faculty of Arts, Professor Tajudeen Opoola, to conduct proper investigation into another allegation of sexual harassment against another lecture in the same department, Dr. Agofure, and submit a report in due time for necessary actions.”
The statement added that the current management of the university would do its best to cleanse the system of all social vices.
