Senator Adams Oshiomhole’s life story is an inspiring tale of resilience, determination, and a commitment to public service. I have no doubt that his excellent show of integrity and alignment with the dreams of the common man contributed immensely to earn him the faith and trust of the good people of Edo state, enough to choose him as Governor between November 2008 and November 2016. Two solid terms of unprecedented growth and developments for the state, the likes of which are sorely missed in recent times.
The same trust and confidence in his ability is what propelled the people of Edo North Senatorial district to ensure with their votes that he represents them in the Red Chambers of the National Assembly in the 2023 general elections. A decision that has proven to be fruitful not only for the people of Edo North or Edo State but in fact for the whole nation. He has championed the fight against corrupt practices especially as regards budgeting and financial allocations while also maintaining and showcasing the pros of leaders with steadfast integrity. The dogged comradeship mentality he ever so displayed as labour leader is clearly enshrined in his DNA more so that despite being of the ruling party he has championed the scrutiny of various government agencies and parastatals to ensure transparency and integrity in their dealings. This has earned him the respect of his peers in such a short time, indeed a distinguished Senator and the people have taken notice.
Representing Edo North Senatorial District, Adams Oshiomhole has captured the attention and gained admiration for his vocal and impassioned speeches on the floor of the senate. On one of my visits to the National Assembly, I inadvertently ran into the man and I needed a few minutes for my eyes to convince my brain to actually agree that it was him. There he was walking majestically into the buildings with an aura of simplicity and accessibility. Without any aide or security personnel in sight.
This simplicity and down-to-earth nature shows his trust in the democratic process, accessibility to constituents, and commitment to transparency and accountability. By embracing a minimal aide and security approach, Senator Oshiomhole epitomises the qualities of a dedicated public servant who prioritises the needs and concerns of the people he represents. He recognises the importance of being in touch with the realities faced by ordinary citizens, and by interacting with them without a significant security presence, he demonstrates a willingness to directly engage with their daily experiences.
