Alleged Forgery: Court Fixes March 27 for Arraignment of Property Developer

A Lagos High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) has fixed March 27, 2024 for arraignment of a property developer, Kelechukwu Mbagwu, over alleged forgery of a document belonging to a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC), late Chief Olufemi Folarin Oshile. 

Justice Sherifat Sonaike fixed the date after the state prosecution counsel, Mr. Matthew Olateju, told the court that the defendant was yet to be served the charge because he was not in custody.

Olateju said the prosecution has communicated with the nominal complainant to see how the defendant can be served. He prayed the court for an adjournment of the case to enable the prosecution serve the defendant.

The state government filed a one-count charge information of forgery against Mr. Mbagwu.

According to the prosecution his offence is contrary to the provision of Section 365 (3) (e) of the Criminal Law, Cap C.17, Vol 3, Laws of Lagos State 2015.

The prosecution said the defendant sometime between 2010 to 2012 at 6/8 Panti Street, Adekunle, Yaba, Lagos State, forged the signature of late Chief Olufemi Folarin Oshile on form 1c.

Oshile was an activist and the first traditional ruler of Yaba. He died in 2013, after the death of his wife, Olori Bose Oshile.

He began politics as a student in England, where he was the president of the Nigerian student union. 

He returned to Nigeria and was very active during the defunct UPN era, fighting injustice and police brutality in the entire mainland.
