Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has said plans are underway to establish a Security Trust Fund, as part of measures to complement the efforts of security agencies in the state.

Speaking during this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day yesterday in Kano, Governor Yusuf explained that the Trust Fund would soon be inaugurated.

He said: “What I intend to do is to inaugurate the Security Trust Fund. We have gone far on that.

“Very soon, we are going to invite the eminent Kano State indigenes, as well as eminent Nigerians we feel can come in and contribute to it so that at least, we  can take measures to curtail the security situation in the state.”

However, the governor commemorated the families of the falling heroes and promised to collaborate with the Nigerian Army on how to support the bereaved families of the late military personnel.

“We commemorate the departure of our armed forces personnel annually. Those who have laid down their lives during their services to the country.

“At the end of the event, we went round and saw the families of the departed ones, especially the widows and the children. I felt so bad seeing those widows and children without their loved ones around. This is a lesson to all of us that every soul will face death when the time comes.

“After going around and seeing them, I want to assure you of my government’s support for them. We are going to liaise with the Brigade Commander and the Officer-in-charge of this Remembrance Day Committee so that we can find ways of assisting the bereaved families.

“I can recall that last month, we distributed food items in the form of palliatives to the vulnerable people in the state. I insisted that widows and orphans as well as children of the late soldiers be included in that assistance. I am happy to say that it has reached all of them,” the governor said.

He assured them of the state government’s determination to provide maximum support to all security outfits working in the state.
