Enugu Council Chair Commends Gov Mbah, COAS over Army Barracks

The Council Chairman of Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, Barr. Obiora Obeagu, has expressed gratitude to the governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, for his push for the establishment of army barracks in the local government, saying that having permanent boots on the ground would bolster the security initiatives of the state and local government area.

Obeagu, who commended the governor for his support, which he said, had commendably improved security in Isi-Uzo described Governor Mbah as “a leader that is creative in his thinking”.

Recall that Governor Mbah had during the visit by the Chief of the Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, to the Government House Enugu, Tuesday, as part of his tour of units and formations of the Nigerian under the jurisdiction of the 82 Division, Enugu, covering the South Eastern and South Southern flanks of the country, requested the Army Headquarters to set up army barracks in Isi-Uzo LGA to bring to a permanent end the security skirmishes occasioned by herders-farmers clashes.

The Chief of Army Staff had also assured the governor that the army would take every step, including having more men on the ground, to rid a few remaining security dark spots in the state of criminal elements.

“We have taken note of the brief of the GOC, 82 Division, and even my private chat with His Excellency, Dr. Peter Mbah, the governor. The Army Headquarters will address all issues raised, including having boots on the ground in Isi-Uzo with the desire to rid the area of criminal elements and to ensure that economic activities thrive in that area”, Lagbaja stated.

Reacting to the development, the Council Chairman of Isi-Uzo, Barr. Obeagu said: “On behalf of the Council and the good people of Isi-Uzo, I thank Governor Peter Mbah for the strategic action to secure Isi-Uzo and commend the security agencies for their partnership and operations that have achieved reasonable peace in Isi-Uzo.

“We join the governor in appreciating the Army Chief for the men and security resources already deployed, whom have been helping to secure the area.

“However, we believe that having a military barracks in Isi-Uzo will bring lasting peace and stability in the crisis-prone parts of Isi-Uzo so as to ramp up farmers economic productivity in the area.

“The people of Isi-Uzo also express our readiness to continue to partner with our state, the military and other security agencies towards achieving this goal”.
