A midnight fire outbreak has thrown hundreds of traders who lost their properties worth millions of naira at Gwarzo Market in in Kano State into a mourning mood.
The affected traders who are now counting their losses were seen crying and lamenting as most of them confessed to having lost their source livelihood to the fire incident.
One of the victims, Dayyabu Bala, a trader who lost business properties worth over N5 million to the inferno, called on the state and federal governments and wealthy individuals to come to their aid to alleviate their suffering.
The zonal information officer of Gwarzo local government Rabiu Khalil said, amongst the early sympathisers was the member representing Gwarzo Federal Constituency Hon. Abdullahi Babangandu, who donated N500,000 to the victims after visiting the scene.
Confirming the incident, the spokesman of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Sa’id, said the fire started at midnight last Sunday and it took their men up to Monday morning before it was finally quenched.
According to him, dozens of shops were completely razed by the inferno, while properties worth millions of naira were destroyed, even though there was no injury or loss of lives during the incident.
