The lawmaker representing Musawa/Matazu federal constituency in Katsina State, Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu Ahmed, has presented a scholarship worth N32.5 million to 1,895 students of higher institutions from the constituency.
The Chairman of the scholarship committee, Dr. Sama’ila Adamu-Dangani, stated this during the flag-off of the disbursement of the scholarship funds to the beneficiaries at the lawmaker’s constituency office in Musawa.
He explained that 2,364 students applied for the scholarship, but after thorough screening, only 1,895 were qualified, comprising 1,087 students from Musawa and 808 from Matazu Local Government Areas of the constituency.
Adamu-Dangani added that each of the beneficiaries undergoing their degree programme and those in Higher National Diploma (HND) programme would receive N20,000 each.
He further explained that each student in the National Certificate of Education (NCE), National Diploma (ND) and other certificate programmes would receive N15, 000 each from the lawmaker.
According to him, “I wish to inform you that a list of about 2,364 was initially compiled for the scholarship, but after thorough screening, only 1,895 qualified.”
Adamu-Dangani, who said the programme does not have an iota of politics, noted that the scholarship was for indigenes of Musawa/Matazu constituency irrespective of their parents political and religious affiliation.
The state Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, while flagging off the distribution of the funds to the benefitting students, described the gesture as a booster to the educational development of the state.
He said the lawmaker was the first to express interest in providing his constituency students with scholarships, adding that it came at the time when the students were in need of educational support.
Governor Radda, who described education as one of his administration’s major priorities, said he has approved over N600 million to settle pending scholarships for the indigent students in the state.
