‘Almajiri’ the Movie, a Compelling Drama

Clips of the movie ‘Almajiri’ have been trending on various social media channels and handles since it hit cinemas nationwide on June 23, 2023, generating tremendous excitement among fans it’s cast and of the producer and Nollywood enthusiasts.  Based on true-life events, the movie, directed by Toka McBaror, is centered on the ‘Almajiri’ system prevalent in northern Nigeria.

Toka McBaror expertly helmed the project, ensuring its artistic and cinematic excellence. The film’s production team is led by Ayo Makun and Darlington Abuda, who have collaborated to bring this thought-provoking story to the big screen. ‘Almajiri’ is a compelling drama that sheds light on the harsh realities faced by children in the northern region of Nigeria.

The film delves into the lives of Almajiri children, who are often subjected to extreme poverty, leading them to roam the streets in search of basic necessities like food, clothing, and shelter. The feature highlights the plight of these children and draw attention to the issues they face, such as chronic illness, physical and sexual abuse, human trafficking, slavery, and drug addiction.

The film boasts an impressive cast, featuring notable actors and actresses such as Alexx Ekubo, Annie Idibia, Kanayo O.
