Edo PDP Endorses Asue Ighodalo’s Decision to Appeal Election Petition Tribunal Verdict

Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), yesterday, said it supported the decision of its candidate in the September 21, 2024 governorship election, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, to appeal the judgement of the Election Petition Tribunal.

The tribunal in its judgement delivered on Wednesday, April 2, affirmed Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as winner of the election.

Dissatisfied, Ighodalo immediately announced he wouldappeal the judgement.

In a communique at the end of a meeting in support of Ighodalo’s decision to appeal, the Edo State Caretaker Committee of the party led by Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, agreed that the judgement was a travesty of just and should not be left unchallenged at a higher court.

The communique signed by the Secretary, Edo PDP Caretaker Committee, Henry Tenebe, in Benin City read:”The Edo State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Caretaker Committee led by Dr. Tony Aziegbemi met on April 7, 2025.

“It discussed the outcome of the governorship election petition tribunal and carefully analysed the judgment.

“It agreed that the judgement of the election petition tribunal was a travesty of justice and therefore endorsed the decision of its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, to appeal the obnoxious judgment.

“It called on PDP members and the people of Edo State to remain resolute and not allow the verdict of the Election Tribunal to dampen their confidence in the institution of the Judiciary and democracy in Nigeria.”
