Leaders Urged to Tap AI’s Potential to Tackle National   Challenges

Leaders across Nigeria are being urged to harness the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence(AI) to address the nation’s pressing challenges and drive economic growth.

Technology expert and Founder  of Quomodo Systems Africa, Oluwole Asalu emphasized that while global innovations like DeepSeek AI are capturing international headlines, Nigeria cannot afford to remain a bystander.

Asalu highlighted the urgency for Nigeria to shift from  passive consumption to proactive innovation, citing Statista’s projection that the Nigerian AI industry will reach $1.40 billion in 2025 and grow to a market value of $4.64 billion by 2030.

He stressed that strategic, inclusive, and ethical approaches to AI development are essential to tackling issues in key sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, and finance, where AI-driven solutions are already improving diagnostic accuracy, optimizing resource use, and enhancing financial inclusion.

“As Nigeria advances its National Artificial Intelligence Strategy and participates in global initiatives like the Bletchley Declaration and secure AI design coalitions, our  policy intentions must translate into tangible outcomes that promote national development.

“Our participation in these international dialogues positions Nigeria as a proactive contributor, but we need accelerated efforts to convert these opportunities into real economic and social benefits. With over 60 percent of Nigerians under 25 and initiatives like the nationwide 3 Million Technical Talent program, the country is well equipped to cultivate a robust AI ecosystem”, he said.

The tech expert however  highlighted the need for robust ethical guidelines to prevent algorithmic bias, ensure data privacy, and mitigate job displacement risks.

“Nigeria has a unique competitive advantage, but our success will depend on our ability to invest in digital infrastructure, strengthen our talent pipelines, and develop regulatory frameworks that support responsible innovation,” he asserted.
