Pat Obilor’s Rising Profile in the UK
Pat Obilor, a Nigerian UK-based media personality and theatre practitioner, has expanded her expertise in the UK as an Arts Adviser, Digital Inclusion Trainer, and Media Coach. Celebrating three years as a global talent expert, Obilor has made notable strides, from acting in UK productions to becoming a sought-after industry event host and Trustee of several art charities. She has now returned to radio after a three-year break, re-establishing herself in the media scene.
“With all these beautiful and colourful opportunities, I now see myself as one of Africa’s creative and media exports,” she enthused during a chat with THISDAY. But for Obilor, relocating to the U.K. was not an easy walk to the park. She shared her experiences:
“I had to go through the process of acclimatisation and relocation setbacks, but I cannot deny the wholesome growth that has defined my life here as a UK resident,” she said. “For someone whose ‘go to’ spot for holidays was London/the USA for many years, it is a different ball game when you relocate, to live and work in the diaspora and to be able to penetrate in the fields you love.”
Obilor shared that she focused on finding her feet between 2021 and 2022.
“I had to do many ‘UnLinkedin’ jobs to stay afloat while volunteering and job hunting at the same time. However, 2023 was the year when I really immersed myself into the creative opportunities that were bestowed on me.”
She credited her success to staying flexible, working across the arts, media, and tech sectors without feeling confined.
Obilor has contributed her skills to institutions like the Museum of London, Christians in Media, and Shakespeare’s Globe. She also ventured into the tech world, earning recognition as a Digital Inclusion Trainer while balancing a corporate job.
A seasoned broadcaster with a presence on stations such as Colourful Radio UK and Nigeria Info FM, Obilor has been known for her engaging discussions on trending topics, cultural diversity, and women/youth empowerment. Now, she returns to radio with Greenwich Maritime Radio in London. “Radio, art, acting, public speaking—they all make me come alive,” she shared, revealing her plans to launch her own show, The Patspiration Show, a lifestyle and business magazine-style program, inspired by her perspectives on life, relationships, career and wellbeing.
As part of her media exploits, Obilor was recently selected to host the Global Day of Pray for Media livestream for Africa and the Middle East. She has also been recognized by the Mayor of London for her voluntary contributions. Beyond media, Obilor is an active member of the UK’s creative community, contributing to organizations like the Shakespeare Globe and the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain.
Reflecting on her past achievements, Obilor acknowledged her previous work with over seven radio stations across Africa and internationally. She is now preparing to host creative retreats in 2025, including the Patspiration Workshop in March and the Patspiration Brunch in August, which will bring together emerging leaders in arts, media, tech, and business for discussions on innovation and the future of creative enterprise. Obilor also plans to publish her adaptation of William Shakespeare’s classic ‘King Lear.’
In addition to her creative work, Obilor has launched two companies: Mogulettes Global, a social enterprise for women, and Adapat Empire Group, a media, arts, and lifestyle company that caters to business management for SMEs and consults for emerging startup brands. She has been recognized by platforms like the Forbes BLK community and serves as a mentor for the Tony Elumelu Foundation.
As she reflected on her career, Obilor said, “I’m in my give-back era, contributing to the wider media and creative sector in the UK, and hoping to become one of the inspiring media voices in Africa and globally. I am also at a place where I am unapologetic about sharing my Christian faith, especially in areas where God showed up for me. So, I believe that every platform I have now is to be a voice socially, spiritually, and ethically as I become the best version of myself.” she concluded.
