Gunmen Abduct Kano Lawmaker’s Mother

Kano State Police Command has confirmed that suspected gunmen in the wee hours of yesterday abducted the mother of the Minority Leader of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Isiyaku Ali Danja.

The state Police spokesman, Mr. Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the incident to journalists, saying: “Effort was being intensified with a view to rescuing the victim and arresting the hoodlums.”

The criminals were said to have gained entrance into the mother of the lawmaker, Hajiya Zainab Danja, in the town around 1 p.m. with sophisticated weapons before whisking her away to an unknown destination.

The suspected gunmen, numbering about 10, stormed Gezawa, headquarters of Gezawa Local Government Area in about four vehicles.

Also, Danja confirmed the abduction of his mother, saying the abductors were yet to communicate with the family.

He said: “Even before I went to Gezawa, the Divisional Police Officers had called me and told me that he had deployed his officers to the scene. He said they have already launched an investigation into the matter.”

 THISDAY gathered that immediately after the attackers left the house, one of the old woman’s caregivers raised the alarm, and police were immediately alerted.
