The federal government has approved the construction of a Mobile Police Barracks in Federal University, Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA), Katsina, Katsina State to enhance the safety of the students and the host community.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Armaya’u Hamisu Bichi, who briefed journalists yesterday in preparation for the 5th and 6th combined convocation of the institution, said that the establishment of the police base in the varsity would tackle security challenges in the area.

He said: “We had gone to the office of the National Security Adviser and asked for help and the federal government had approved the construction of a Mobile Police Barack within our main campus.

“I assure you very soon construction work will start and a Mobile Police Barrack will be in the institution’s main campus to complement the effort of the already existing security personnel in the school.”

He, however, said that the university would graduate its first PhD students with 90 masters and Post-graduate Diploma and 1,210 undergraduate students during the 5th and 6th combined convocation which coincided with the varsity 10-year anniversary.

He explained that all the programmes of the institutions have been accredited by the National University Commission (NUC), while the enrollment drive of the varsity had increased from 3,000 to 20,000.

He reiterated that he had established faculties of Law, Engineering and Medicine and were awaiting approval from the NUC.

Bichi disclosed that plans were on to convert Federal Medical Centre, Katsina, to be an University Teaching Hospital.
