The Governor of Bauchi State, Mr. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has directed the immediate rehabilitation of the major road in Ningi Local Government Area (NLGA) that connected vehicular movements from Bauchi to Kano and other parts of Northwestern sub-region within the next one week.

It would be recalled that three persons were killed after the car they were traveling in was washed away by the flood at Malka village in NLGA of the state.

THISDAY checks revealed that the flood caused the collapse of the road.

The flood, which left many travellers on the busy Bauchi-Ningi – Kano highway as well as villages alike stranded was attributed to several hours of heavy downpour between that occurred between Thursday night and Friday.

Mohammed said that the state government would support contractors to fix the road on time because of its economic importance to the state even though the collapsed highway bridge was a federal road,

“We are here with the officials of FERMA and Triacta on a joint inspection visit to this collapsed highway bridge to see how we can solve the incident immediately.

“The economic loses as a result of the incident is so monumental and as such, Bauchi State Government will support contractors to fix the bride and we hope Mr. President will refund us because of his love to people of Bauchi State.”

“On behalf of the federal government and the state government I want to use this medium to commiserate with the families of those who lost their members as a result of the incident,” Mohammed said.

While commiserating with families of the three people who lost their lives as a result of the incident, the governor also directed the Chairman of the local government to identify with the victims’ family with a view to providing them with palliative.

He used the opportunity to call on the federal government to expedite action in arresting similar situation along Bauchi-Jos and Gombe Roads that would completely cut off transportation activities from other parts of the country to the state and the Northeastern sub-region.

The governors also inspected some flood affected areas in the state capital where he directed relevant authorities to provide lasting solution to the problem.

The Speaker, Bauchi State House Assembly, Hon. Abubakar Y. Suleiman, who is the member representing Ningi constituency in the assembly, said the situation was devastating as the flood washed away parts of the road, disconnecting the people of Bauchi, Kano and Jigawa States.

It could be recalled that residents of Fadamar Mada in the state capital staged a peace protest on the need for government to address the devastating effect of flood in the area.
