NNL: Remo Stars Banished to Akure over Violence in Clash with Insurance

Remo Stars FC have been banished to Akure Township Stadium for their next home match of the 2020/2021 League Match. The Match is to be played behind closed doors.

The banishment of Remo to Akure is the outcome of the appeal filed by Bendel Insurance to the Appeals Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) after the Edo team’s players and officials were beaten by fans of the Ikenne-based club.

The match between Insurance and the home team was disrupted due to encroachment and violent conduct by Officials and Supporters of Remo Stars FC.

It however led to the players and officials of Bendel Insurance FC, being chased out of the field of play, resulting in various degrees of injuries.

In the decision reached by the NFF’s Appeals Committee headed by Barr. Ibrahim Eddy Mark, banishment shall be for only one match, after which Remo Stars FC will return to their home ground in Ikenne Ogun State for the rest of their matches.

In addition to the banishment, Remo Stars FC were also fined N200,000 for damage caused to the Camera and Phones belonging to the officials of the Appellant, Bendel Insurance FC.

“The Committee hereby awards the sum of N500,000 as cost against the Respondent, Remo Stars FC, to be paid to the Appellant, Bendel Insurance FC as nominal damage for the injuries caused to their Officials and Players and their medical bill.

“The sum of N100,000 is hereby awarded as fine against the Respondent, Remo Stars FC, to be paid to the Appellant, Bendel Insurance FC, as damages caused to their Bus.

“Remo Stars FC is hereby fined the sum of N500,000 as fine for encroachment by their supporters, who were present at the Stadium during the match, in breach of Covid-19 protocols.”

Bendel Insurance FC were warned to desist from conduct likely to bring the game of football to disrepute through the use of social and mainstream media to address their grievances.”
