COVID-19: Nigeria Vaccinates 215,277 in Three Weeks

….Lagos tops with 58,461

Nigeria has so far vaccinated a total of 215,277 people in 29 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Lagos State is leading other states in the number of persons vaccinated with 58, 461, followed by Bauchi State, which has so far administered the COVID-19 vaccine to 23,827 people.

According to the statistics issued by the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA) yesterday, about 5.5 per cent of the country’s population have taken the vaccine since it was rolled out early this month.

Details of the statistics showed that Lagos has vaccinated 58,461; Bauchi, 23,827; Abia zero; Adamawa, 7,407; Akwa Ibom, 127; Anambra, 132; Bayelsa, 552; Benue, 146; Borno, 653; Cross River State, 948; Delta, 915; Ebonyi 1,049; Edo 2,645; Ekiti 1,049; Enugu, 956; FCT, 8,616; Gombe, 203; Imo, 1,908; Jigawa, 20,800 and Kaduna 14,572.

Other states are: Kano, 3,903; Katsina, 10,002; Kebbi 0; Kogi, zero; Kwara, 12,016; Nasarawa, 6,801; Niger, zero; Ogun, 19,257; Ondo, 4,205; Osun, 6,658; Oyo, zero; Plateau, 883; Rivers, 1,951; Sokoto, 98, Taraba, zero; Yobe, 5,509; Zamfara, zero.

The statistics further indicates that the number of Astrazeneca vaccine doses still untilised is 393,784,723.

According to the stages of vaccination as approved by the NPHCDA, only frontline health workers and identified strategic political office holders, traditional and religious leaders are supposed to be receive the vaccine jab under first phase of the exercise.

While giving update on the ongoing vaccination across the country, at media briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 on Monday, the Executive Director of the NPHCDA, Dr. Faisal Shuaib said that available records at the various vaccination centre across the country did not indicate any adverse records from those so far vaccinated.

“No Nigerian has so far developed any adverse side effects due to the Vaccination. While we have observed some mild body pains and fever at some of the centres, it is important that it is possible for you to take the vaccine and develop other diseases that are unrelated to the vaccination process,” he said.
