Guber Aspirant Calls for Urgent Measures to Tackle Security Threats in Anambra
  •   Sympathises with families of slain indigenes, officers

Top contender for the November 6, Anambra State governorship election, Mr Paul Orajiaka, has called for urgent measures by all stakeholders to tackle the worrisome security threat in the state.

In a statement on Tuesday, Orajiaka stated that it was the responsibility of all stakeholders in the state to immediately work together to find a lasting solution to the worsening security situation in the state before it gets out of control.

Expressing sympathy to the families of indigenes and security officers killed in the recent spate of killings in the state, Orajiaka said that those behind the killing must be fished out and made to face the full wrath of the law.

Orajiaka also noted that besides the tough talk by Governor Willie Obiano and the marching order to security agencies to arrest the situation, a holistic approach of finding the root cause of the rising security threat must also be adopted.

He said: “It breaks my heart to see how my dear Anambra state has been over-powered by heartless criminals. In the last few days, scores of peace loving indigenes have been killed including security personnels. Cultists appear to have also taken over our state. This is a clear threat which must be immediately arrested before it gets worst.

“While the state government has taken some actions to curtain the situation, I urge all Anambra sons and daughters to come together to tackle this menace. The task of securing our state and making it safe cannot be left in the hands of government and security officers alone. We must set aside all our differences and work together to secure our state.

“Our village heads, community leaders, youths, market men and women, and politicians must see this challenge as a common affront to our collective existence. We must realise that nothing thrives in an unsafe environment. The criminals in our state are not aliens; they are people living amongst us. We must do all we can to fish them out and hand them over to the security agencies for prosecution.

“Beyond the urgent measures currently being taken by the state government to tackle the situation, I want to emphasize the need for the government to get to the root cause of the sudden insecurity surge in the state. Deploying security officers to streets to curtain the current situation can only bring about temporary relief. Government must work with community leaders and other stakeholders in the state to identify and tackle the root cause of the sudden insecurity surge. That is the only way we can effectively tackle insecurity in the state.

“ I sympathize with the families of those killed in the state recently, including the gallant security officers who were shot and killed by dare-devil criminals. I pray that God would comfort them and give them the grace to bear the loss. We owe these families justice and the only way we can pay them is by ensuring that all criminals in our communities are arrested and brought to book. It is my earnest wish that the criminal amongst us must not go unpunished.”
