Attack on Ortom’s Convoy, Dangerous Dimension to Insecurity, Says Niger Gov

The Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, has described the attack on the convoy of the Benue State Governor, Mr Samuel Ortom, by suspected gunmen as a dangerous dimension introduced to the insecurity problems facing the country.

Bello, who is the Chairman of the North-central State Governor’s Forum, in a statement made available to newsmen in Minna on Monday, therefore called on the federal government to carry out a thorough investigation into the matter.

In the statement signed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mary Noel Berje, Governor Bello said: “Something urgent and drastic must be done collectively to curtail the situation which is a threat to the nation’s corporate coexistence.

“This issue of insecurity in our nation needs all and sundry to be collectively responsible in addressing it irrespective of religious, ethnic and political affiliations.”

He said the North-central Governor’s Forum “is in solidarity with Governor Ortom and the entire people of Benue State”.

Bello applauded the efforts of the security details of Governor Ortom which ensured his safety and others on his entourage advising them not to relent in their efforts in securing the lives and property not only that of the governor but the entire people of the state.
