How people behave and the events that shape their life is not only good to be observed and understood but necessary to guide present and future generation, especially in an era where due diligence, hard work and exemplary lifestyle are eroding.
Those were a few lessons captured in Oju Pon Koko Ma Foo, written by Aderemi Oduola as key instrument for moral lessons and a perfect guide to the history of Prince Adeleke Oduola.
The 227 pages biography written in Yoruba narrated Oduola’s many strides, struggles, political prowess, religious dedications and other active roles that would teach present and future generation that although life might come with unimaginable hurdles, our ability to navigate and leave good legacies.
Events during the colonial era and efforts traditional rulers and key people in the society played in maintaining peace, as well as the economic outlook of the country during the period, were the major issues in the first chapter of the book. Oduola’s father, Ibiloye Aremu from Osogbo was one of the few advisers, who played such.
The author also brought forward the rich traditional practices in Yoruba land, especially the peaceful coexistence in the early 90s, traditional religion and other practices, joy of childbirth and the impacts of downturn.
Like what many Nigerians still go through, the book’s vivid narration of economic hardship and its implications in raising children and living above poverty played a role in Oduola’s life.
Also rural to urban migration in search of greener pasture and the healthcare challenge, especially lack of awareness has been a long-standing issue. Oduola had his share of these issues.
Although he later broke even, he ventured into many commercial, made wrong projections and counted loses. Oduola had ventured into the fashion industry, was a trader, a car dealer and had even played a role in the entertainment industry.
Oduola also played critical roles in shaping the country’s political ecosystem, especially in the Western region after joining the defunct Action Group around 1953. The book narrated his roles in pre independence, military era as well recent political activities.
Oduola’s involvement in the establishment of Oroki Social Club of Osogbo was equally detailed in the book, the reasons behind the club, especially the political angle, the key actors in the club and other prevailing issues were captured.
