The Jesuit-Catholic College of Lagos, St. Francis Catholic Secondary School (SFCSS) has admonished the 128 newly graduated students on the importance of education as they proceed to higher institutions.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony recently at the school premises, the School Administrator, Rev. Maduabuchi Muoneme advised the students to keep the flag flying to ensure that the values they got from the school continue in their lives as they begin another academic journey.

“Today we are graduating 128 students that are dynamic, who have deposited themselves to character building and academic excellence. They performed wonderfully in the just concluded West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

“In this 2020 class, we have one of the best JAMB scores, the top ten best scores in Nigeria one of them is in this class. One of our students, Fejiro Simeon scored 352 in JAMB being top ten out of 1.9 million Nigerians that wrote JAMB this year. All the students are really promising as I believe they are going places.”

Muoneme added that the school trains students on multiple intelligence. “We believe that we have to train different parts of multiple intelligences, that is why we give holistic education where we care about the soul, mind and body. We try to introduce skills in the students besides academics. We have talents in sports, musical talents, acting talents.

“We have people who have potential in journalism, we have future business tycoons, I am very proud of them. Our best student in JAMB was offered a five year scholarship by the Nigerian Society of Engineers to study at the Obafemi Awolowo University.

“Our students of this time deserve the award of patience of job because of their endurance of the crisis from COVID-19 pandemic, EndSARS protest and all, they have been very patient.

“My advice to them is to keep the flag flying to ensure that the values they got from the school will continue in their lives in terms of discipline, respect and values.”

In his remarks, the Head Boy, Augustine Chidera, who believes he will become the president of Nigeria, commended the teachers and the school administration, while promising to continue on the virtues the school instilled in them.

Also speaking, one of the best graduating students, Fejiro Simeon, who was also one of the top ten candidates in the 2020 JAMB/UTME with a score of 352, said part of his drive was to win the prize.
“I read a lot and the most important factor to my success is prayer. I had a personal relationship with God and I focused on the prize.

“Goal setting is very important. We understand that anyone that scores above 345 in JAMB and 9A’s in WAEC will get a car and anyone that scored 300 and above will get a laptop so sometimes when I want to get tired I just imagine myself inside a car. I was actually pushing to get what I want,” he said.
