House Committee Chair Probing NDDC Recuses Self

By Udora Orizu

The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Nigeria Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has recused himself from the public hearing, stepping aside for the Deputy Chairman, Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi, to take over the ongoing probe.

The House Monday continues with its investigative hearing on the alleged financial recklessness at the NDDC.

Pondei had walked out of the hearing last week, after objecting to Tunji-Ojo presiding over the hearing, insisting he cannot preside over a matter in which he is an accused.

The Commission had accused Mr Tunji-Ojo of having benefited from award of contracts in the commission. The lawmaker, however, described the allegations as shameful and baseless.

Currently before the panel are the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, and the Acting Managing Director of the agency, Mr Daniel Pondei, who were summoned at the last sitting on Friday.
