PTF Briefs Buhari on COVID-19 as Nigerians Await Next Phase

As the second phase of the ease of lockdown which began on June 2 ends Monday, the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 has met with President Muhammadu Buhari to brief him ahead of the pronouncement of the next phase.

At the meeting which held in the State House Monday afternoon were Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman of the PTF, Mr. Boss Mustapha, Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, the Coordinator of the PTF on COVID-19, Dr. Sani Aliyu and Director General of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu.

The second phase of the ease of the lockdown which began on June 2 and conceived to last for four weeks, will lapse at 11.59pm Monday.

Buhari had on April 27, this year, announced the gradual ease of an initial total four-week lockdown in Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lagos and Ogun States.

The first phase of the ease of the lockdown was extended to June 1 from May.

Following the take-off of the second phase on June 2, the government relaxed restrictions on banking operations and worship places. It also reduced the duration of the curfew imposition from 8pm-4am to 10pm to 4am.
