Obi Condemns Killings in Nigeria, Calls for Strengthening of Security

By Charles Ajunwa

The Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last election, Mr. Peter Obi, has condemned in strongest terms, the incessant killing of Nigerians on our highways.

In a statement by his media aide, Valentine Obienyem, Obi regretted the killing of one Mr.

Chuks Ofodile along the Gegu-Koton Federal Highway in Lokoja, Kogi State.

Obi who described the killing of Mr. Ofodile as highly regrettable said that entrepreneurs like him, who started from nothing but by dint of hardwork rose to positions where they have contributed immensely to the building of a better country through assisting government on employment, payment of taxes and fulfillment of other obligations should be accorded deserved treatment.

He said that if the security situation in the country was left to deteriorate, it will scare away investors, with the attendant negative effects on the economy, in addition to the psychological havoc such killings would wreak on Nigerians who were battling the global COVID-19 pandemic.

He appealed to federal, state and local authorities to strengthen security and save the lives of Nigerians, including entrepreneurs that would assist in the employment of Nigerians, especially now it has been projected that unemployment in Nigeria may rise to 39.4 million in December due to COVID-19 pandemic.

It would be recalled that Mr. Ofodile, who owned a chain of supermarkets across the country, was killed by armed robbers.
