The leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on churches to participate in a 24 hours prayer chain against the spread of the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic in the country,

A statement issued yesterday by the Special Assistant (Media and Communications) to the CAN President, Pastor Adebayo Oladeji, CAN enjoined every Christian family in the country to perform the prayer chain from April 6 to April 7.

The CAN statement referred to a memo the association issued yesterday and personally signed by the President of CAN, His Eminence, Rev. Dr. Samson Olasupo Ayokunle, to all heads of religious blocs that made up the association and leadership of the body from national to state level, which said that the prayer chain would be observed from 6am on Monday to 6am of Tuesday next week.

“It is expected that each church should divide all the congregating families into groups. Prayers are to be led by each family for a maximum period of 30 Minutes each.

It said the church faithful should pray to God for forgiveness of sins and for His mercies upon the country.

The CAN also said that prayers should be directed at asking God to heal our land and cleanse the country from this pandemic and other sicknesses and diseases that are lurking around.

It also commented on the current suffering in the land: “The leadership of our local churches and our government would be caring enough in making palliative provision available for those who may find provision of food difficult for their families because of restriction of movements or shutdown
