Chukwuemeka Ike’s Funeral Postponed

The burial rites of Nigerian literary icon, the traditional ruler of Ndikelionwu, Anambra State, Eze Prof. Chukwuemeka Ike, earlier scheduled for April 1 – 5, have now been shifted to a date to be announced later.

The decision, according to a statement, was in compliance with the ban placed by government on public gatherings, due to the ravaging COVID-19.

The family stated that they regretted any inconveniences the postponement may have caused guests who may have concluded plans to grace the occasion.

The statement was issued by the Town Union President General, Edozie Obasi, who also doubles as the Chairman of the Eze Ikelionwu burial council.

The late Ike, who died on January 8, 2020 at the age of 89, was Deputy Chairman (South), Anambra State Council of Traditional Rulers; a literary giant with over 14 novels; former Registrar, University of Nigeria Nsukka; former Pro-Chancellor & Chairman of Board of University of Benin and Anambra State University; former Registrar West African Examination Council (WAEC); a Distinguished academic and holder of Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (OFR) and the Nigerian National Order of Merit Award (NNOM), among other international awards/honors.
