Benue, Kano Ask Workers to Work from Home

The governments of Kano and Benue states, yesterday directed workers to work from their homes.

Benue State Government approved “work from home” for its civil servants on grade levels 1 to 2 and banned visitors from entering the Government House in Makurdi.

This was contained in a communique issued at the end of an expanded Executive Council Meeting which held at Government House in Makurdi presided over by Governor Samuel Ortom.

Reading the communique to journalists, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Tony Ijohor (SAN), said that the work-from-home” approach for these categories of workers was meant to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 in and round government offices in the state, stressing that workers on grade level 13 and above would be allowed into government offices to render skeletal and other essential services .

He explained that the stay-off workplaces would last for two weeks, which is subject to review after the first week starting from Wednesday, March 25, 2020 (today), while government would also press on the authority of the State Independent Electoral Commission, to also postponed local government election for two weeks which was earlier slated to hold on March 28, 2020.

The Kano State government has also directed civil servants to stay off office for 14 days as from Wednesday, March 25 (today) as part of the efforts to safeguard the lives of the people of the state and prevent the spread of the deadly virus to the state.

A statement signed by the state Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba on the outcome of the special session of the council meeting held at the Africa House, Government House, however, said that essential service workers to be identified by the government, are exempted from the stay at home order.
