ANRP Guber Candidate Alleges Threat to Life

 The candidate of the Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP) during the 2019 governorship election in Akwa Ibom State Mr. Iboro Otu has raised the alarm over plan to assassinate him by gunmen.

 Out who is one of the candidates contesting the results of the 2019 governorship elections in the state said in an interview with newsmen in Uyo that relevant security agencies have been contacted for thorough investigation to unravel those behind the threat to his life.

 The ANRP governorship candidate said he escaped an attempt to assassinate him last week Thursday at his office along Edet Akpan Avenue, four lane in Uyo, the state capital.

 Otu who is the Director of Alert Nigeria, a non-governmental organization (NGO) said he received information from neighbours  that his personal office had been attacked by yet to be identified persons who came with an unmarked white Toyota saloon car and went straight to his office.

He said he was preparing to receive some foreign partners on a   training programme for youths in the state when the suspected assassin’s broke into his office vandalized all the doors and carted away his laptops computers containing sensitive information’s about the ongoing election petition he instituted at tribunal.

 “I just left my office in preparation to receive my partners who are due to visit the state on training programme but when I came back a neighbor told me that some unknown  persons  whose identity he could not ascertain  came looking for me.

“On getting there I discovered that the door to my office had been vandalized and my lap top computer and some documents carted away.

“I immediately reported the matter to the police and the State security service (SSS) who came and arrested the security man on duty.”

Otu traced his ordea on his decision to reclaim his mandate at the Governorship election  petition tribunal sitting in Uyo and alleged that in the last couple of weeks he has received several telephone calls and text messages from unknown persons threatening him that he should either  withdrawal his petition or lose his life.  “I thought I should let the public know about the threat to save my live’’

“It is very clear that it is an assassination attempt on my life, because the hoodlums did not take anything  apart from  my personal computer lap top, but the God I serve had made it impossible for them to get me”, he said.

“I therefore wish to appeal to the security agencies in the state to protect my life and as a law abiding citizen save me from assassin’s bullet’’ he stated.

Reacting, Barr Sunday Afiko of the Law Partners and Associate totally condemned the threat and attempt on the life of  his client.

“We called on government both at the federal and state level to rise to their responsibility of protecting the right of the citizens of this country, our client is a law abiding citizen we will keep low and follow due process
