The Junior Achievement Nigeria (JAN) has gone into a partnership with the Aspire Coronation Trust (ACT) Foundation to launch and expand the JAN, “My Company, My Region,” a programme across the South-west region from June 2019.

The programme was geared towards encouraging junior secondary students to learn and apply entrepreneurial thinking as they explore higher education and future career choices.

The programme was developed in response to the alarming dropout rate of students between junior secondary and senior secondary schools.

It also aims to provide young people with skills, values and opportunities required for wealth generation and gainful employment.

Speaking at a media briefing in Lagos recently, the Executive Director, JAN, Simi Nwogugu, expressed delight at the level of support offered by the ACT Foundation and highlighted the critical role grant makers has played in creating an enabling environment for youth development.

“The initial support we received from ACT Foundation was for a pilot program that ran in Lagos and Abeokuta. We successfully reached our goal of 2,000 students and are thrilled that ACT Foundation has agreed to further support the initiative so that we can scale up and reach many more students,” she added.

In her remarks, the Chief Executive Officer, ACT Foundation, Ms. Osayi Allie, said her organisation was commitment to partnering with the right organisations to accelerate entrepreneurial development.

She added: “This is our second successful partnership with JAN. With them, we look forward to developing world-class entrepreneurs who can create innovative businesses that solve problems and generate wealth within their communities.

“ACT Foundation remains dedicated to fostering work readiness and financial literacy among Nigerian youth, skills that are desperately needed if we want them to have a sustainable future.”

Also, as JAN celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, the expansion of the programme is expected to increase the organisation’s chances of reaching its target of impacting one million youth by the end of 2019.
