Emir of Kano Seeks Improvement in Agriculture to Tackle Unemployment

The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II, has suggest the improvement of the agricultural sector as remedy towards addressing the rate of unemployment and other challenges facing the country.

The Emir suggested this at the weekend during a pre-Ramadan lecture with the Topic: ‘Evidence Based Solutions to the Nigerian Economy: The Islamic Perspective’ organised by the Bauchi State chapter of the Association of Muslim Professionals held at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi.

Sanusi remarked that before the recovery of oil, the Nigerian economy was driven by agriculture, and insisted that the revival of the sector would work if experts are engaged.

The Emir of Kano, who was represented by Sarkin Shanun Kano, said the effort of the present administration to support the Agricultural sector,  had motivated many Nigerians to engage in farming activities.

In a key note address, the state Governor, Muhammad Abdullahi Abubukar, represented by the State Commissioner for Religious Affairs and Community Relations, Alhaji Ado Sarkin Aska, urged the association to seek partnership with the state government for effective propagation of its activities.

Guest Speakers at the public lecture, Dr. Naziru Sulaiman of ATBU Bauchi and Dr. Abdulmajid Jamal Abubakar, of ATAP Bauchi, identified corruption as one of the challenges affecting the growth and development of the nation’s economy and suggested a review of the country’s economic policy.

They also identified insecurity, lack of enabling environment and economic corruption as some of the problems affecting the economy, saying that lower human capital, is among the impact of corruption on an economy.

In a welcome address, the National President, Association of Muslim Professionals, Professor Suleiman Bala Dalhat, recalled that the Association was established to promote the practice of Islam through the use of the knowledge of its members.
