RCCG Football League Competition Returns after 13 Years

The first edition of Redeemed Christian Church of God Lagos province 70 football league competition taking place at Abete playing field in Iwaya Yaba , Lagos, returns with 16 teams keenly competing for the medals, cash prizes and t trophy. The competition dates back to the 1990`s but went into oblivion since 2005 due to lack of sponsorship producing the like of Nigeria internationals like of Alloy Agu, Dosu Joseph and many others.                                                                                           The Chairman LOC and Brand sponsor of the competition, Pastor Yakubu Ahmed stated that the competition sponsorship was an initiative of the church to encourage and admonish the football players as the grass root level.

He said: these Christian based sport outreach projects are being recognised by secular sporting network as valid forms of engagement through which sport tackle the problem of society. He believes this is the real sport ministry, not just working in the church but taking the church outside to the people.

The Head of technical committee Oladapo Olayinka, who is the coach of 36 Lions feeders team, said he was honoured to be part of the organising team to reviving the long overdue Iwaya Football League. He was grateful to RCCG for their initiative and sponsorship. He stated that standard of the competition will live up to expectation with the level of public awareness.
