Guinness Extends CSR Gesture to Kebbi Community

Guinness Nigeria Plc, a subsidiary of Diageo, has partnered WaterAid  Commission, to provide solar powered water facility to the people of  D’ka community in  Wasagu Local Government of Kebbi State.

The gesture,  which is part of the company’s Water of Life’ project, was aimed at ensuring that over 2500 residents of the  community enjoyed sustainable access to water, sanitation and hygiene.

Guinness Nigeria and WaterAid Nigeria were able to deliver the project  in a partnership deal with the Kebbi State Government, through the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, RUWASSA . 

Speaking on the project, Territory Manager Sokoto/Kebbi, Guinness Nigeria Plc., Demmo Ibrahim, stated that the exercise would also quicken the realisation of United Nations Sustainable development Goal ,SDG, 6 to provide clean water and sanitation.

“As part of the company’s commitment to the communities in which we source, make or sell, we have established several water schemes under the Diageo Africa Water of Life programme, a project that provides access to clean, drinking water and socio-economic development.

“We believe that water is a basic human right and our commitment remains unwavering in ensuring that people in underserved communities continue to have access to clean water,” he assured.

Co-ordinator Strategic Partnership and Grant Management  of WaterAid,Gerald Ogoko, reiterated the firm’s committment to proper sanitation.

“Equity and inclusion is a fundamental guiding principle in our efforts to deliver clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene. We are therefore excited at the opportunity to be part of the commissioning of this water facility, provided to the people of D’Ka community, with support from Diageo Plc,” he said.

In his remarks, Executive Chairman of  Danko Wasagu Local Government Area,  Kebbi State, Suleiman Shindi, thanked the company for the gesture and urged the people of the community to always support the firm in their own way.
