In recognition of the roles mothers play to keep the family and society stable even in the face of challenges, some outstanding mothers were honoured last weekend at the 2019 Mother’s Day Fiesta held at the National Arts Theater, Lagos.

Organised annually by R Wells Media and Advertising Company, the Mother’s Day Fiesta is a programme held to celebrate mothers whose presence in the homes and families bring happiness, love, stability and procreation.

The fiesta goes further to present awards to mothers who have been extraordinary in their fields of endeavour, from the academic, medical, entrepreneurship, media and entertainment, hospitality industry, among others.

“We discovered that mothers are not celebrated enough. We need to celebrate mothers because mothers are the keepers of the home and so if you have a happy mother you will have a happy home, you will have a happy family.

“So every year we come together to celebrate mothers on Mother’s Day, and then we give awards to outstanding mothers – mothers who have done extraordinary things as mothers,” Managing Director, R Wells Media and Advertising, Mrs Jibe Ologeh said.

The highpoint of this year’s edition of the fiesta was the presentation of the Mother of The Year Award to famous comedian, musician and actress, Dr. Helen Paul, for being an encouragement to other women.

Eight other women were also presented with the Outstanding Mothers Award for making extraordinary sources in their vocations while making the world proud.

“This year we made Helen Paul our Mother of the Year. She is a mother, she is a comedian. She just bagged a Ph. D award from the University of Lagos, that’s worth celebrating.

“So as a mother, we decided to say you have done well, and that is why we have gathered together to celebrate Helen Paul as the Mother of The Year 2019,” Ologeh said.

According to her, “I love being a mother because I’m able to give to another life, to impact to another for a better society. I love being a mother because I’m a help from God, to reshape and recreate another human being.”

Advising mothers and intending mothers, Ologeh said: “As a mother you need to do something to earn a living because for you to be able to help your husband you need to be financially stable. So women are encouraged to work in order not depend on their husband for everything.

“As a potential mother, make sure you prepare to be a mother. Don’t become a mother by accident, be a mother because you are ready. Motherhood involves responsibility. So if you’re not ready for that responsibility, don’t go have a child.”
