Adenrele Edwards: Enhancing the Beauty Care Sector

Amidst funfair and great excitement, Nzuri Spa and Salon, owned by Adenrele Edwards, recently launched in Lekki-Lagos, to take advantage of the fast growing cosmetology sector, and demand for enhanced beauty care. Sunday Ehigiator reports

Beauty care is not just a business of today. In fact; since time immemorial, makeup has been used to enhance beauty. From the ancient Egyptians, who wore makeup made of lead ore and copper, to the Indian women who used berries to lighten the lips and ashes of burnt matches to darken the eyes, it is only proper it is getting the attention it deserves all over the world now.

Today, makeup has been developed for practically every application you can think of. From making eyes pop with eye-shadow to hiding undesirable pores, makeup has come a long way (we even have vegan makeup).

Hence, Nzuri Spa and Salon was launched with a special feature of a well equipped salon for men, women, children; a pedicure/manicure studio with a massage room for couples and singles, boutique for all ages, gender, sizes and shape.

Speaking to THISDAY, the Founder, Nzuri Spa and Salon, Mrs. Adenrele Edwards said Nzuri is a Swahili word for Beauty, and the business was established based on popular demands for world class Spa and Beauty Salon.

According to her, “Nzuri is a name born out of the beauty in every individual created by God. NzurI brings a fresh perspective on beauty, health and wellness and to customer service and experience by making sure that every visit is an indulgent experience from the moment you step in till you leave.

“Everything from the music to the decor and overall ambiance was carefully and deliberately selected. Our treatments are a luxury indulgence and investment in health. The spa uses high performance, high concentrations of plant nutrients handcrafted by our in-house professionally certified Skincare formulator as well as Luxury French skincare Gemmology, the first gemstone inspired skincare in the world.

“Our staff are committed to promoting a holistic approach to treat the mind body and spirit. We offer an online booking platform 24/7 in 365 days, where guests can keep up to date with our latest special offers, choose preferred stylists and technicians, check prices and even know how long each service will last at the tap of the screen.”
She added that, “Nzuri keeps ahead of current trends and techniques in both hair and beauty by delivering personalised consultation and experience. Expertly trained, our team deliver superior hairdressing and spa treatment in our beautifully designed location in Lekki.

“It is a boutique which style a one-stop service salon and spa catering for women, men and children by delivering services in hair dressing and styling, nail care, makeup , children salon barbing, facial and body treatments and all thing related to the beautifying of the total body. It allows our clients to unwind and let go in its ultra tranquil, luxurious and pleasurable atmosphere. Clients enjoy the best of care in our services and products as delivered to them.”

Edwards also noted that, “ as you know, beauty care has gone beyond the status quo witnessed before now where after being an apprentice for a few years; gives you the modus-operandi to excel in care treatment, manicure and pedicure.

“These days professionalism has become the norm. There is an urgent need to get trained and certified so that you do not become obsolete. Our staff are the best hands you can ever get in Nigeria, as they are constantly being trained and retrained in their areas of expertise and are constantly adapting their skills to match the trends.

“When a client comes the first time, they are coming to test your skills, and the level at which services are delivered would have a great say in them coming back. Every client wants to see value for their money. And this is all we offer at Nzuri’s. We simply represent the best and second to none.

“And for me, I see beauty care service as a passion before its commercial value. Although I started out in Warri and was into both fashion and beauty care, before coming down to Lagos, my passion for the industry made me obtain a certificate in beauty therapy and skincare formulation which enables me to formulate creams for whatever skin issue that anyone may have.

“Although people believe that this industry is regarded as a recession proof business, but I don’t view it that way. I am a trader who offers quality services to people, and this is the reason why my clients keep coming back with a lot of referrals, after just an encounter with us.”

Speaking on the role of government in growing the industry, Adenrele was of the opinion that government should encourage the private sector by formulating policies that would drive productivity in the sector and would further promote employment and more players in the industry.

According to her, “the issue of electrical energy and water is a disturbing factor that the government needs to put in place if the private sector will thrive. The cost of running operations on unstable power supply and fuel is a problem. And this is one major way the government can encourage businesses like ours because we are 100 per cent dependent on power.

“And since we can’t depend on the epileptic power supplies, we are mostly running on other means of power generation. And this has its way of affecting the cost of our services. The moment we begin to experience stable electricity in Nigeria, no doubt, a lot of services would be affordable. Hence, there is an urgent need for the government to take this very seriously.” she said.

Nigeria today is blighted with a lot of socioeconomic and political issues, which have seen a lot of people scurrying around in between jobs just to make ends meet. For the average Nigerian a weekend of rest is seen as a luxury. But despite all these, to ensure that stress is relieved and to increase quality of life, some weekends should be committed in relaxation and care, which places like Nzuri offer.
