Gbagada Jasmine Lions Club, District 404 A1 Nigeria at the weekend donated a 3.75 KVA power generating set and a four-unit toilet worth N2 million to the Bariga Divisional Police headquarters.

Making the presentation to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Segun Titiladunayo, in Lagos, the Governor of District 404 1A Nigeria, Lions Club international, Sir Monday Onyeme, lauded the chapter for being consistent with the humanitarian disposition of the global organisation.

He was particularly impressed with the record two-month delivery timeline of the project, just as he congratulated the recipient for being found worthy and providing a space for the project.

He said: “By their action, we shall know them. I pray this will be the beginning of partnership between the police and Lion Club International, District 404 1A Nigeria. We make life easier for humanity.”

Onyeme continued: “Our regime does not have second term. We do one-year tenure, step aside and still contribute to the development of the club.”

The district governor declared that 18 of similar projects would have been replicated in the 83 clubs making up the district before their 2018/2019 tenure runs out on June 30 this year.

In her remark,  the club president, Lion Patricia Onuchukwu, commended Onyeme for being supportive, noting that he contributed 50 per cent of the projects’ sum in line with his appellation as an “empowerment district governor.”

Asked what informed the title, Onuchukwu stated that Onyeme has all along lived to his words of providing funding for laudable projects in all the clubs in the district.

She pointed out that her organisation undertook the mission to check indiscriminate defecation and protect the environment, even as she sought support from government and kind-spirited individuals and organisations for the non-profit making movement to do more for the betterment of humankind.

On the choice of the recipient, Onuchukwu said the club found it apposite to site the facility therein in view of the population the police post hosts regularly, and the need to save the environment from the health hazards open defecation poses to the wellbeing of Nigerians.

The station DPO, Titiladunayo, lauded the gesture, adding that in his 31 years of service, he had not witnessed this ‘show of love’, thanking the club for practising what it actually preaches. He promised to make good use of the items.

The highpoint of the ceremony was the decoration of the host police chief with a recognition crest by the district governor.
