Count Us Out of Abdulrasaq’s Certificate Forgery Case, Kwara PDP Tells APC Leaders

Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) at the weekend advised leaders of All Progressives Congress(APC) in the state to count the PDP out of the allegation of West African Examination Council(WAEC) certificate case forgery levelled against  the state Governor-elect, Alhaji Abdulraham Abdulrasaq.

A whistle blower, Mr. Adekunle Oluwafemi Abraham, who recently exposed and instituted a court case at Ilorin high court over authenticity of WAEC certificate of the governor-elect, has alleged that his life is being threatened by unknown people.

Abraham, who spoke with journalists in Ilorin recently, however, said he did it in line with the President Muhammadu Buhari administration’s commitment to war against corruption.

However, the Media Officer to the governor-elect, Mr. Rafiu Ajakaye, has denied the allegation of certificate forgery, saying the governor-elect duly attended Government College, Kaduna, passed out and obtained his WAEC certificate.

Also, the school mates of Abdulrasaq have come out publicly to deny his certificate forgery levied against him.

In a statement signed by members of the Government College Kaduna Old Boys Association (GCKOBA), Kabiru Yaro, Abdulmalik Giwa and Sanusi Ramallam, the schoolmates said the claim was a “smear campaign.”

However, PDP in a statement issued in Ilorin signed by its state Publicity Secretary, Mr. Tunde Ashaolu, said: “The PDP has no link with the development, and there is absolutely no basis to accuse or blame the PDP for Abdulrahman’s certificate forgery case which is currently before an Ilorin High court.”

“Our attention has been drawn to a fictitious comment made by a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State  and published by a section of the media, accusing our party, the PDP, of blackmailing the state Governor-elect, Abdulrazaq, with the certificate forgery scandal he is enmeshed in.

“This accusation is not only false but also laughable as the PDP has no link with the development. There is absolutely no basis to accuse or blame the PDP for Abdulrahman’s certificate forgery case which is currently before an Ilorin High Court.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Abdulrahman was dragged to court by one Adekunle Oluwafemi Abraham over his involvement in certificate forgery. Abraham instituted the court case against the APC governorship candidate to challenge the authenticity of the WAEC result he presented to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2019 elections.

“The claimant is not a member or official of the PDP and in fact, has no established connection with the party. We then wonder why anyone in his right senses would choose to blame or link the PDP with the court case?”

The statement added that “rather than pointing fingers at the PDP, we implore governor-elect to go to court to defend his alleged criminal offence of forging his WAEC certificate, which he claimed to have obtained from Government College, Kaduna.

“Abdulrahman still has some days left out of the 30-day ultimatum given to him by the court to defend the authenticity of his result, which he presented to INEC. Let him go and clear his name and stop using proxy to blame the PDP for his trial.”
