Agency Adopts New Fire Fighting Technology

The Controller General of the Nigeria Fire Service, Ibrahim Liman, has disclosed that the service is highly predisposed to latest technology deployed globally in the fight against fire incidences in the country.

Liman, said this became necessary taking into consideration the fact that the kind of fire fought by the service in the 1970s was not the same with what is obtain today, hence the need to continue to adapt and adopt.

He spoke shortly after the display of the AFT Backpack, a new fire-fighting technology introduced into the country.

The technology which was pioneered into the country by Skytick Technology Global Limited, consists of AFT Backpack 9L Air Front Kopie, AFT Backpack 9L Air back Kopie, AFT Backpack 9L Air Back Left Kopie, amongst others.

“We receive a proposal from a German company to bring some modern equipment for demonstration, for us to see the efficiency and effectiveness of the equipment which you have also witnessed.

“These are mobile fire extinguishers and with new technology added because it is not the fire we fought in the 70s that we are fighting now. So, there is new development in the manufacturing of new firefighting equipment and this is one of them,” Liman said.

He said it was a routine that each time there were new fire-fighting equipment in the market, they would be brought to the attention of the Federal Fire Service to carry out a demonstration before certification for public use or for the Fire Service to procure some of the equipment for its operation.

Also speaking, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Skytick Technology Global Limited, Edirin Wesley, said the new technology was the latest technology to stop fire at the real time.

“AFT is a German product and they have been in existence for over 20 years. They have been using it in different countries, refineries, power stations, communication stations and banks as well”, he said.
