Obaseki’s education reform: Edo Poly, Usen matriculates 1140, as rector harps on hard work, warns against cultism

Rector of Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, Prof. Abiodun Falodun, has charged newly matriculated students of the school to be diligent and work hard to distinguish themselves in their academic pursuit so they can positively impact society.

The rector, who said this at the 17th matriculation ceremony of the institution, disclosed that not less than 1140 students were matriculated by the polytechnic for the 2018/2019 academic session.

He said that the school has recorded tremendous change in the last one year owing to the support of the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, noting, “We are delighted by the fatherly role played by the governor in repositioning the school. With this, we are able to attract a lot of local and international partnerships to develop the school.”

He said, “The management has zero tolerance for cultism and other anti-social behaviours. Our gratitude also goes to Tetfund for training, capacity building of academic and non-academic staff, as well as, for the provision of physical infrastructure in the school.”

The rector charged the matriculants to maximise their stay in the school by concentrating on their studies and developing life-long study habits that will help them cope with the challenges of life.

He noted that a lot of developments are ongoing at the school, which has continued to attract students to the institution, stressing, “We are making a lot of changes. We now have new programmes that have just been established. Some of the new programmes are doing really well. An example is the Mass Communication Department.

“We have just procured equipment for a state-of-the-art studio, this will improve the learning experience for the students and ensure that they get the best from their studies,”

He noted that the school is also working with partners and investors to lift the fortunes of the host community. According to him, “We have just revamped the health facility in the polytechnic, which now boast of the only doctor in this community. An enterprise arm is also flourishing, where we intend to partner with willing individuals to invest in businesses in the school and the host community”
