Obaseki Proceeds on Annual Vacation, Transfers Powers to Deputy

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has proceeded on annual vacation and in line with democratic practice, has transmitted a letter to the Edo State House of Assembly, to transfer powers to his deputy, Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, who will act as governor during the period while he is away.

A statement signed by the clerk of the Edo State House of Assembly, Alhaji Audu Yahaya Omogbai, said that the Speaker, Hon. Kabiru Adjoto has received a letter from the governor notifying the legislature of his annual vacation, beginning from Sunday, March 24, to April 23, 2019.

According to him, “the letter states that the Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu will act as the governor during the period.

“The parliament hereby extends her commendation to the governor for setting a democratic and constitutional landmark in the state by temporarily transferring power to his deputy, while away and ensuring that the house is duly carried along, which is in full compliance with section 190 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.”

He added: “Edo State House of Assembly assures the good people of Edo State of its unwavering cooperation with the Acting Governor as he carries out his constitutional responsibilities.”
