From George Okoh In Makurdi

A former Nigerian military Head of State, Gen. Abdusalami Abubakar, has called for a peaceful rerun of inconclusive elections in the country.

Abdusalami, who made the call during a town hall meeting of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Makurdi Wednesday, noted that peaceful election engenders development in the society.

Represented by George Nakanda, the Media Officer of Kukah Centre, Abdusalami said: “We are trying to enforce a situation where there are peaceful elections and ensure that there is peace after the elections.”

Speaking at the occasion, the state Governor Samuel Ortom, who was represented by his deputy, Benson Abounu, urged the people the embrace peace, which he noted, is a prerequisite for development.

He urged the contestants to accept the outcome of any process which is devoid of malpractices.

The governor lauded the convener of the meeting, which he said would go a long way to foster peace during the elections, even as he cautioned against acts that could lead to loss of lives and destruction of election materials.
