CNPP Craves Support for Ayade’s Second Term

By Bassey Inyang in Calabar

Twenty five political parties in Cross River State, all members of the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP) have congratulated Governor Ben Ayade over his reelection for second term in office.

While congratulating the governor on Friday at a press conference in Calabar, the state chapter of the CNPP led by its chairman, Pastor Sunday Michael, said they would throw their weight behind the governor, so he could have a successful second term.

Addressing journalists on behalf of the governorship candidates, Michael said they decided to support Ayade because “the governorship election was free, fair, and credible.”

Michael said now that election was over; the state should be allowed to move in the interest of the people, and for the governor to settle and continue in his industrial development plan.

“Elections have come and gone and our general assessment of the poll shows that the election was relatively free, fair and credible.  It is on this premise that we the governorship candidates and chairmen of political parties say a big congratulation to Senator Ben Ayade, Governor-elect.

“We urge the governor to see this victory as the validation of the trust the majority of the people had in him to continue in his industrialisation drive, job creation, youth empowerment and see to the realisation of his flagship projects,” Michael said.

The CNPP appealed to other candidates who contested the governorship election, but lost, to sheathe their swords and allow peace to reign.

The CNPP advised that all the governorship candidates should accept the outcomes of the election in the spirit of sportsmanship.
