London to Lagos: Bonhams Auction House Woos Collectors

A leading auction house in London, Bonhams has announced another bridge building auction plannedfor March 20 which enables potential art collectors in Lagos to bid for masterpieces of art as their UK counterparts at the Modern and Contemporary African Art Auction.

With over 100 pieces on sale, the auction house is parading the best of African art and artists such Ben Enwonwu, Erhabor Emokpae, Jimoh Alomo, UzoEgonu, Ladi I walk, Kolade Oshinowo, AbiodunOlaku, Gbenga Offo, Kainebi Osahenye and Boris Nzebo (Cameroon). Other artists from South Africa whose works are part of the lots include Gerald Sekoto, Francois Krige, Vladimir GriegorovichTretchikoff, Harry Trevor, Carl Adolph Buchner, Christo Coetzee, Cecil Edwin Grabs Skotnes, Sydney Alex Kumalo, Dylan Lewis, Billy Monk, Brett Murray, Lionel Smut and Dumile Feni-Mhlaba.

Sudanese artists are part of this auction. Masters such as Ahmad Shibram, Hussein Shariffe, Ibrahim El-Salahi and Muhammed Ahmed Abdalla Abbaro will have their works on bid as well.

The auction will take place in Lagos at sundown at the Wheatbaker Hotel, Ikoyi simultaneously with the UK bidders.
