The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-west region Wednesday disclosed that it convincingly won 72.14 percent of various executive and legislative elective positions the party nominated candidates for in the just concluded elections.

The party also congratulated Lagos State Governor-elect, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu; his Ogun State counterpart, Mr. Dapo Abiodun, as well as their deputies on their victories in the just concluded governorship elections.

The APC National Vice Chairman (South-west), Mr. Bankole Oluwajana, gave the analysis of the election results in the region, noting that the results indeed reaffirmed the Southwest as the nerve centre of progressive politics in the country.

He also cited the roles of the APC national leader, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu; former Ogun State Governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba; Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, and his Ondo State counterpart, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu(SAN), among others in the party’s unprecedented performance in the region.

Giving regional analysis of the last poll, Oluwajana explained that the APC won 66.66 percent of the governorship race; 77.78 percent of the senatorial election; 71.83 percent of the House of Representatives contest and 72.28 percent of the state House of Assembly constituencies in the region.

Even though it lost governorship election in Oyo State, the vice chairman explained that the APC won two states where governorship election held in the geo-political zone; 51 seats in the House of Representatives election out of 71 while it cleared 14 seats in the senatorial contest out of 18 seats.

“Likewise, in the House of Representatives contest, the breakdown shows that in the South-west, the APC won four seats in Ondo State; six in Osun State; nine in Oyo State; six in Ogun State; 20 in Lagos State and cleared all six seats in Ekiti State.

“Also, in the senatorial contest, the party won one seat in Ondo State; three in Ekiti State; two in Osun State; two in Oyo State; three in Ogun State and three in Lagos State, thereby affirming APC’s political control in the geo-political zone.

“In the House of Assembly race, the APC won the entire 16 constituencies in Ekiti State (100 percent); 22 out of 26 seats (84.61 percent) in Ondo State; 15 out of 26 seats (57.69 percent) in Ogun State; five out of 32 seats (15.62 percent) in Oyo State; 22 out of 26 seats (84.61) in Osun Sate and the 40 seats (100 percent) in Lagos State,” he said.

With this performance, Oluwajana noted that the South-west “is the nerve centre of progressive politics in Nigeria. We thus urge all those elected on the platform of the APC to uphold the tenets and values of the progressive politics the zone is known for.”

On this note, Oluwajana congratulated Lagos State Deputy Governor-elect, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat; his Ogun State counterpart, Mrs. Noimot Salako-Oyedele; all senators-elect and their counterparts in the House of Representatives in the region on their successful election.

Except in the case of Oyo State where a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Temitope Olatoye, was killed Oluwajana acknowledged that the elections were peaceful and orderly in all states of the region.

He, therefore, appreciated Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, APC lational leader, Tinubu; former APC National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande; former Ogun State Governor, Osoba and the APC National Deputy Chairman (South), Otunba Niyi Adebayo, for their contributions to the party’s victory in the region.
