Two primary school children have been killed and three others injured while playing with undetonated explosives.

According to a source within an international aid agency who preferred anonymity, the incident occurred yesterday morning at a primary school in Gamboru in Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State.

The impeccable source said: “On March 13, 2019 at about 1015hours, four children from Gamboru Central Primary school found undetonated hand grenade at a nearby bush not far from their school and were playing with it (at break time).

“They were playing with the explosives innocently outside their school premise about 500 metres away.

“Four of the kids were playing under a water overhead tank. They were hitting the hand grenade on the metal, which later exploded with the four kids. The resultant explosion killed two of the children and injured three other students,” he said.

The source lamented that the four children playing with the explosives are all from one household.

Confirming the incident, an eyewitness Abbagana Bindi and a military personnel, who spoke anonymously from Gamboru, said the explosives killed one of the children on the spot and wounded four others.

According to him, one of the wounded children was later lost at MSF facility at ISS IDP camp.

The two lost children have been buried according to Islamic rites, while the remaining three kids were receiving treatment at MSF facility ISS IDP camp and Secondary facility Kusuri in Cameroon, the sources said
