Tension over governorship election results from Ideato South local government, where Governor Rochas Okorocha hails from, brought the collation of governorship election tresults in Imo to an abrupt end Monday morning.

Problem started when the local government collation officer and the electoral officer (EO) for Ideato South came out to declare the governorship results from the local government and the agent of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Uche Onyeagocha, made an observation concerning how party agents were chased out from the collation centre in the local government to enable alleged execution of Governor Okorocha’s secret plans.

Onyeagocha said, “this result was the one I reported to the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Imo State through a petition earlier in the day and he even called the EO in my presence and the EO confirmed it.

“I submit that this result should not be presented here because of the the irregularities associated with it”, he said.

At this point, the party agent of Action Alliance (AA), Mr. Paschal Onwukaike, and Mr. Steve Asimobi, raised objection and urged the State Collation Officer, Prof. Francis Otunta, who is the Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) to accept the result.

As the argument was on, Onwukaike rushed to the collation table, grabbed the result sheets and tore them. This action caused panic and other electoral officers, party agents, election observers, journalists and security operatives ran for their dear lives.

The three gladiators: Uche Onyeagocha, Steve Asimobi and Paschal Onwukaike were arrested by the police and taken out for questioning.

Meanwhile, candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Emeka Ihedioha, was leading with a wide margin while candidate of AA, Uche Nwosu, was trailing him far behind.
