The third edition of Nigeria’s food, drinks and culture festival known as the Lagos International Food and Drinks Festival (LIFDF), is set to take place in Lagos, on March 23, 2019.

The festival, which would welcome over 10,000 visitors and hundred vendors, was inspired by a courageous and universal cultural energy that has translated into the flavours of its cuisine and strong sensibilities of its spirits.

According to a statement signed by the Event Director, Ike Steve, the event would feature indigenous cuisines, drinks samples from over 40 Nigerian ethnic groups, live musical performances, comedy shows and also various competitions including cooking, music, dance, eating and drinking as well as food and art exhibitions.

He further noted that there would be dance performances by cultural groups, chef master classes, children’s fun activities, wine tasting sessions, seminars on food and nutrition, match making sessions between small and medium size enterprises (SMSEs) and exhibitions of products by various vendors.

“On a nationalistic front, when this festival evolves to its maximum potential, it will boost the business behind the food industry in Nigeria; thinking of the generation of increased economic activities for the chefs, caterers who participate, then the restaurants, hotels, eateries that accommodates them and the business growth it would generate for local suppliers of goods and services in the food industry.

“Expanding the horizon of our thinking to what this means when we introduce global exposure to the product; the world would understand that Nigeria is so much more than her current stereotype, which benefits our tourism product, increases our exports of both goods and services while helping generate the much needed foreign exchange,’’ Steve stated.

He also explained that part of the efforts to expand this edition of the event would be the Beer Festival, Lagos would be co-hosted with the food festival.

This, he said was designed to celebrate Nigeria’s shared drinking culture and a love of celebrating life.
Steve added: “The Beer Festival promises to be the largest annual gathering of beer enthusiasts, celebrities, bar crawlers, connoisseurs, and those who simply want to learn more about beer.

“It is a chance for brewers to network with old and new fans, while also giving them an ideal opportunity to put a face to the creator of their fans favourite beer.

“Also the festival would highlight the health benefits of moderate consumption of beer as nutritionists and beer experts would be on hand to meet with the visitors and share insights.”
