Atiku Wins in Delta

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has defeated the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), President Muhammadu Buhari, in Delta State.

The state Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Collation Officer for the presidential election in Delta State, Prof Seth Accra Jaja, Who announced the results Tuesday, said Atiku garnered a total of 594,068 of the valid votes, while President Buhari polled 221,292 votes.

Prof. Jaja added that the presidential candidate of the FRESH Party, Pastor Chris Okotie, who hails from Delta State, won a total of 109 votes out of the total valid votes cast.

However, the presidential election results indicated a generally low turnout of voters in the state.

Although, the state recorded a total of 2,719,313 registered voters at the commencement of the election, only 891,647 persons were accredited to vote in the 25 local government areas of the state, representing 32.789 per cent of the registered voters.
